LinkedIn ads billed from Ireland
Reverse charge 5%, usually recoverable in the same return.
LinkedIn bills from its Irish entity, so the invoice shows no UAE VAT. You account for 5% yourself under reverse charge and claim the same amount back in that return, so the net VAT cost is zero. Since 1 January 2026 you don't need a self-invoice, but keep the LinkedIn invoice as support.

Brochures from a Dubai printer
5%, recoverable.
A UAE printer charges 5% on its tax invoice. Brochures that promote your business are a normal business cost, so the VAT comes back in full. Check the invoice shows the printer's TRN.

Product launch dinner for clients
VAT blocked, 50% deductible for corporate tax.
A dinner for clients is entertainment, even when it's part of a marketing campaign, so the VAT is blocked. For corporate tax, only 50% of the cost is deductible, so book it separately from the rest of the campaign.

Common mistakes
Treating a foreign platform invoice as 'no VAT' and skipping the reverse charge entry.
Reverse charge and imports
Common. Check the invoice: no UAE VAT and an overseas supplier means reverse charge applies.
How reverse charge worksWhat changed recently
From 1 Jan 2026 importers no longer issue a self-invoice under reverse charge but must still account for the VAT and keep support (VATP046).
Questions peopleask about this
Do I pay VAT on Google or Meta ads billed from abroad?
The invoice won't show UAE VAT, but you still account for 5% yourself under reverse charge. For a business making taxable sales, you recover the same amount in that return, so the net cost is zero.
Is a sponsorship advertising or entertainment?
Sponsorship that puts your brand in front of an audience is advertising, so the VAT is recoverable. If the event is really hospitality for clients, like a launch dinner or a VIP night, it falls under the entertainment block instead.
Are branded giveaways treated differently?
The VAT on giveaways is recoverable, but goods worth more than AED 500 to one person in 12 months become a deemed supply, so you account for output VAT on them.
